Simplifying with Multiplication + Division

Introduction Notes

After discussing powers and exponents, I teach a lesson on how to simplify an expression with multiplication and division. First, I begin with a set of notes covering the topic. This part year I used a set of digital notes to teach the concept. Students learn the rules for multiplication on the first slide, division on the second slide and then they complete several practice problems on the final slide. Activity

After going over the notes, I like to complete a magic square puzzle to help reinforce the concept. In this activity, students will simplify various expressions and locate their matches on the puzzle. Once they pair the problems with their simplified answers, they will form a complete 4x4 square.
